NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has come up with an ingenious solution to take better photographs of ultra-bright stars; a baseball diamond-sized folding shade that blocks out a star’s powerful rays.

  1. I don't understand why they can't make an either smaller more structurally sound one, &or perhaps an arm that extends lining up like the sight of a gun or just block the light in that fashion inside the optix? Two pieces extended so frailly over such a distance seems rather risky difficult. If it works, more power to ya, but for how long? I'm all for it/progression but you don't think we can get a more clever or trickier with this solution?

  2. Meiner Meinung nach ist es egal ob der Starshade viereckig oder Sonnenblumen förmig ist, weil er ja eh Kilometer weit vom Teleskop entfernt ist. Da sollte doch die Form des Schildes keine Rolle spielen. Oder??
