How much does the mass change per 100ml of oil soaked? Depending on that we maybe able to hook ropes to pull the mass easily via net and now i ask you to figure out how you will pitch this practical to be used incase of an oil spill
I am not a chemist… But I am guessing the really problem here is what happens when your oil thins out to a monolayer….

If water boils at 100C and oils boil at around 200C (on average), heat the liquids to 100C and boil off the water, collecting it ie through a pipe then mop up the oil, before reintroducing thr water back to the original area.
