Earth Observation satellites don’t actually “take pictures” like your phone or DSLR. Instead, they capture streams of light reflected from Earth using specialised sensors.

That’s why a satellite “photo” isn’t just a picture. It’s data. Data that tells us about crops, climate, forests, fires, ice, oceans — and so much more.
