In part 20 we continue where we left off after the 2nd Battle of Nola, with Hannibal wintering in Apulia in late 215 BC, and we go up to the Battle of Tarentum in the spring of 212 BC. I won’t give any other spoilers!
Special thanks to David Feeney for graciously allowing us to use his paper “Hannibal’s Summer campaign of 213 BC”. This episode would not have been possible without him. For the algorithm
Gracchus having the slaves fight for their freedom against Hanno was genius. Such a tried and true tactic, Washington and the northern colonies would use it again thousands of years later to defeat the south in the American civil war, by having African American slaves fight against their former masters in the south. One of my ancestors was one of those very slaves. Thereβs nothing men will fight harder for than freedom and family.
Thanks!
HE'S BACK! HE'S BACK!
