  1. @lkaruga Not really. Can you imagine 30 satellites colliding if the surface of the earth was their orbit? Now imagine them orbitting in 3-d space much bigger than earth itself.

  2. @TableWolfMusic Existing GPS of course won't compete with this . However, this requires lots of money and satellites to support it. So far, Galileo is still in its design, and haven't sent out 1/3 of the satellites to support its minimum functions after the idea was posted for 10 years. On the other hand, GPS & Beidou 's original design were different from Galileo, but they are already applied to some purpose. And ppl can always upgrade existing tech's. Good luck, new tech is always exciting

  3. 1:40 is of course complete bullshit. No person will be able to send any kind of signal, simply because mayeb he will know his position even from GPS or maps, but no cellphone will be in range.

  4. It isn't. What if, because of some disagreement the USA decised to shut off Europe or the rest of the world from their GPS network? It'll be extremely inconvenient for civlians and put the European military at an incredible disadvantage towards armies with GPS.

With Galileo Europe will be able to have a more accurate system also capable of assisting with construction work (which is somewhat unreliable with the more inaccurate GPS).
No more depending on another country's politics
