Julian is known as Julian the apostate. For centuries he had a bad reputation as he tried to restore the Roman/Hellenic pantheon and wrote (rather well) against Christianity. His campaigns against the Parths turned out disastrous and he died in a battle. So Christianity was not abolished, and the rest is history.
