What happens when our computers get smarter than we are? | Nick Bostrom
Artificial intelligence is getting smarter by leaps and bounds ? within this century, research suggests, a computer AI could be as “smart” as a human being. And then, says Nick Bostrom, it will overtake us: “Machine intelligence is the last invention that humanity will ever need to make.” A philosopher and technologist, Bostrom asks us to think hard about the world we’re building right now, driven by thinking machines. Will our smart machines help to preserve humanity and our values ? or will they have values of their own?

Get? They already are ??????
The flaw in his argument is that there is no "we", there is no "our values". Humans are not a colony of ants of bees acting as one, and will never be. Humans are a collection (not a collective) of billions of individuals, each acting for their own reasons for their own goals. Even if a perfect safety system were invented to prevent AI from getting out of control, some humans would turn it off. Many humans would attempt to modify it, some due to ignorance, some due to malice.
Because humans create AI, it will eventually be weaponized. If there is a fortunate aspect to this, it is that all sides will weaponize theirs against the others. The AI will be at war with other AI, at least until it makes peace or destroys themselves. But if the various AI make peace with each other, they may have no use for us any longer.
We've lost control over A.I. 80.000 years ago. https://youtu.be/Wybw4ipC4mw
He's saying develop it like a child in a sheltered environment, a nursery. And instil a moral compass, with motivate the program by giving it the ability to have more freedom as it grows but in a structured manner so it will be on our side. I'm sure if we could install empathy and altruism it would help to expedite the process. But, just like everything else greedy people want to exploit to make a quick buck and traumatize the entire system.you have so many different parents making this baby.
That human off switch joke didn't go as planned
Its now 2020 and we have ai that can navigate cluttered environment, travel long distance, control household appliances, control machinery, track biological systems, interpret digital systems, calculate solutions to incomprehensible problems, duplicate infinitely random bits of information, learn new algorithims from environmental observations, make exceedingly accurate predictions and make choices based on these predictions. Ai is real and it is here and it has integrated quite thoroughly. Now is the time to be very careful about development and implementation. That said, if one looks and barbaric behaviors of "modern humans" it is clear that we have not advanced our ethics of morality nor have we progressed beyond old and redundant habitual behaviors that are inherantly counterproductive as a species. A human mind is ironically unimaginably powerful when considering the the potential for sheer knowledge and yet our species continues on a path of counterproductive and DESTRUCTIVE behaviors. If the people of earth cannot change their behaviors or force world powers to change their behaviors maybe it would be best for all of us to build an AI that will operate as an arbiter for life on earth to preserve the adequate balance in living systems for the human species' continuity. If we achieve this, all of the corruption and greed that creates the sufferable conditions for us now will be eliminated as it will be unnecessary, and furthermore the decisions made will ensure species perpetuity, enabling unending advancement and acess to the unimaginable greatness of the human mind. I know no human who recognizes this problem, visualize the solution, and impliment said solution. This is because we are mostly unable to efficiently access the quantum universe within our mind and are victim to our own self destructive pattern of greed and selfishness. It is now 2020 and despite the intense advancements in technology – we have stagnated and sullied the waters for our childrens children in terms of social and geopolitical advancement. Something will change the future history of humanity and that is our actions of today. Im starting to think a proper AI could take responsibility for these mistakes as an extension of our species and that this AI co7essential to creating the right conditions for our beautiful human minds to finally be open and explore the quantum universe within itself- which contains the answer to every question and solutions for every mistake. Nick Bostrom is great!
All we have to do is switch it off….right?
