π© Considered one of the most important defeats in Roman history, the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest brought the triumphant period of expansion under Augustus to an abrupt end. It discouraged the Romans from pursuing the full conquest of Germania, instead switching to tribute collection, thus can be considered one of the most important events in European history.

Arminius did an amazing job by banding together all the different Germanic tribes and training them to fight smarter instead of using brute strength, but I don't think he necessarily "won" as much as Varus "lost". Varus' ego is what doomed his men. There were so many signs pointing to Arminius betraying Rome, but his ego wouldn't allow him to believe that Arminius didn't want to be Roman. This happens again and again throughout Romes' history. In the mind of a Roman elite, why would somebody choose to be a barbarian over Rome? Rome was the light of the world, it had everything. It was unfathomable to Varus that Arminius would go back to being a filthy savage barbarian when he had grown up with the Emperors favor. I honestly think Varus believed Arminius would come and save them right up until the point when he saw Arminius leading the Germanic force.

That was great, canβt wait for part two
God damn the last 90 second of this video go so hard βRome has beasts of their ownβ¦and death is coming with themβ
I wasnβt aware the battle was 3 days and so tactical. Great video
These battles are the best because of the constant mobility. You always just see 2 armies crash into each other and maybe some flanking but that's about it
Wow, i need part 2
