  1. the air does not leave. the outside air does not "push it in." heated air expands, then as it cools the molecules slow down, causing contraction. the result being the balloon being sucked in.
    great demonstration but get the concepts right!

  2. @millee2 Might I add to that that it's not only the cooling air but also when the balloon is put over the bottle the fire keeps for a while and consumes all the oxigen in the bottle (about 21% of the volume as evryone knows) which helps to create a depression inside the bottle which causes the balloon to go in due to a higher pressure outside the bottle.
    So it's being sucked in and pushed in at the same time.
